Website Warrior Week Day One- Exploring Wix Website Builder- Donut Socialite

Need a Website but Don’t Have the Budget to Get One Built?

Starting a business takes a lot. You have to put a ton of hours into research and development, buy all of your products, worry about overhead, supplies, resources and tools- the list can go on and on.

So it’s no wonder some small business owners don’t have the time or energy to worry about the company website. The bummer is, with all of the start up costs, most business owners will have to cut costs in order to grow.

We have heard starter companies say that they have had to find a way to creatively get all of their digital branding done pro bono or for a fraction of the price because they understand the importance of a digital presence, but they simply can’t afford to hire a web designer to develop a full site at the moment.

It happens. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have a great first impression online because you were taking care of business in every other way.

That is why we have put together the Website Warrior Week Series, where we help small business owners learn the ropes with the best FREE website builders on the market. Even if you do not have a background in design/development, this series is designed for you to get a grasp on how to create your own beautiful, fully functional website on a budget.

Every day we have tackled a different platform so you can have a choice of which one seems more your style plus we go over some of the most common concerns for each website builder.

Each metric is broken down below. The scale is from least favorable to most favorable (1-5) and we go into detail as to what some of the most common issues or concerns are with the platform. Finally, we solve these issues as best we can with what the platform gives us, that way it doesn’t get too complicated for you as an user.

User Friendliness (4.25)

Wix is best known for their drag and drop features and variety of website templates. After signing up, it was fairly easy to choose a template and get started on the build of the site, but it was a little confusing on how to access each page initially. Also, on first sight the element tool bar was a bit difficult to understand. But once you find the pages (top menu drop down option) and get a hang of the functions of the tool bar, Wix is pretty simple.

Ease of Sign Up (5.0)

The easiest part of using Wix has to be the sign up. There were two options for sign up- your email or your social media as a touch point- and you can even use your Gmail account if you are already signed in. Definitely a great start to building your site.

Language- Can I understand it without Googling it (3.50)

This is where Wix needs some improvement. As a first time user, it can be a little confusing on what some of the terms really mean. For example,

Look of design (4.50)

The overall look of the design is great! With the right template, your site can really shine and  give off a great first impression of your company.

Variety of options (4.0)

There were a good amount of options for the templates, fonts, and options to build  the site. If this is someone’s first time building a site, it can be somewhat overwhelming because of all of the add-on functions, but if you are willing to play around on the platform, it will be well worth the curiosity.

All in all, Wix is a great way to get your business online on a strict budget. The platform has a very simple interface that is user friendly. There were a few small quirks that made the platform a bit confusing as a first time user- such as the word choice for certain functions and  the access to tools being in different locations- but overall a good experience.

Out of 5, Wix gets a 4.25

How to gain more Followers on Twitter

You: How do I gain more Followers on Twitter?

Me: Be One with Twitter

funny face meme donut socialite blog post how to gain more Twitter followers

Are you on Twitter but can’t seem to figure out how to gain more followers?

Well, you are in luck.

I am going to go through 5 steps that will help you gain 100 followers in a week. Follow these steps and you will be well on your way to more followers on Twitter.

Why do I want more followers on Twitter?

  1. Having more followers on Twitter helps you get your message out. The more people you have following you, the more people who will see your content and potentially share it to their network
  2. Be a part of a bigger conversation. Sometimes followers bring up issues and topics that may not be that obvious to us when we first post something
  3. Create leverage with your Twitter page and become an influencer. True it will only be 100 followers this week, but over time you can create some real steam that can mean 100’s of thousands of followers for you. More followers mean more leverage online and more notoriety. Speaking of which
  4. More credibility. When others see you increase your following, they will automatically think, “hey! who is this person and why do people want to follow them?”

First things first—-

A Quick Checklist for Your Profile

  • Make sure your profile is complete with a Bio and a profile picture. No one likes an “Egg”
  • Be sure you have a link in the website portion that either connects to your website or profile on another social media site
  • Follow at least 25 accounts that you have genuine interest in. Twitter suggests some of the most popular accounts when you sign up but you want to be sure you are following accounts YOU want to see content from.

Remember, Twitter is a great environment for your personality (however you would describe it) so treat this as a first conversation every time you tweet something. The rule of thumb is “best foot forward.”

Okay, now you’re ready for the flood of followers!

These 5 steps will get you 100 Twitter followers in a week. Ready?

  1. Find an influential person on Twitter that is in your same field of work (or that you admire)
  2. Scroll their account and find a topic they are talking about that you also know about
  3. “Reply all” to the tweet (Meaning add you value to the conversation and ‘Reply’ to all who have replied directly to the tweet–don’t worry Twitter allows you to ‘Reply All’ when you hit Reply.
  4. Keep the conversation going. Add links and references for your thought process.
  5. Follow the followers who interest you the most.

***Repeat steps for a different page/ person/ subject that interests you.***

You can literally do this for hashtags, people, companies, political leaders, etc. It is a good practice to only choose interests that are most aligned with yours.

And just like that, you will gain 100 new followers this week.

NOTE: Do not use your powers for evil.

Always be sure to practice good judgement in having conversations with strangers. You do not want to come off the wrong way, plus you only have 140 characters. So make it count!

Hope this helps! I was able to grow my personal Twitter account to about 10.6k in a few months using this method.

Let me know how it worked for you!
